Course Information

  • A nationally recognised qualification designed to prepare you for a confident, professional future in dog grooming.

    The OCN NI Level 3 Diploma in Professional Dog Grooming at Pawfections by Nicki provides a comprehensive introduction to the industry, combining practical salon experience with essential theoretical learning. The course is fully accredited and suitable for beginners, with no previous grooming experience required, while also supporting those who wish to formalise existing skills.

    Course Structure

    Total Duration:
    30 training days

    • 29 days of supervised, hands-on grooming in a working salon

    • 1 full day of accredited Canine First Aid training (included)

    Practical Training

    Throughout the course, you will work with a wide range of dogs, grooming a minimum of 10 different breeds. This ensures experience across varying coat types, sizes, and temperaments, helping you build confidence and adaptability in real grooming situations.

    Coursework & Assessment

    You will complete:

    • 5 grooming portfolios, documenting full grooms from consultation to finish

    • 9 theory workbooks, covering professional standards, health and safety, canine behaviour, welfare, and legislation

    All coursework is supported with guidance and feedback throughout your training.

    Skills You Will Develop

    • Professional bathing and drying methods using salon-grade equipment

    • Scissoring and clipping techniques for a variety of coat types

    • Breed-appropriate styling and finishing

    • Safe handling, hygiene, and welfare-focused grooming practices

    • Understanding of salon operations and basic business management

    • Clear and professional communication with clients, including consultations and booking management

    Training Schedule

    • Minimum attendance: 2 days per week

    • Maximum attendance: Up to 4 days per week

    • Flexible scheduling available to accommodate work or personal commitments

    Career Progression

    On completion of the course, you will hold a recognised qualification and the practical experience needed to work confidently within a grooming salon, join a mobile grooming service, or take steps towards establishing your own business.

    Training takes place in a supportive, real-salon environment, with continued guidance and mentoring available as you progress beyond qualification.
